Kathryn (Kate) Gilmore is Professor-in-Practice with the International Development Department of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), Honorary Professor with the School of Law at the University of Essex and formerly a Fellow with the Harvard University Kennedy School Carr Centre for Human Rights Policy. She is Chair of the Board of International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), Vice Chair of Interpeace, an international peace building body, and co-Chair of the WHO Gender and Human Rights Advisory Panel on Human Reproduction.

From 2015 to 2019 Kate was United Nations (UN) Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights, having been UN Assistant Secretary General and Deputy Executive Director for Programmes at the UN Population Fund (UNFPA). Kate was National Director of Amnesty International Australia before becoming Executive Deputy Secretary General of Amnesty International globally.

She started her career in social work, working to combat violence against women and helping establish Australia’s first centre against sexual assault at Melbourne’s Royal Women’s Hospital.
